Avoid artificial barriers. This is an immersion breaker. If cliffs could be scalable, but required time and resources and boundaries weren't wooden fences that we could leap over and rivers weren't just literal walls but instead obstacles that could be swam over with the proper equipment it would be amazing.
Monsters exist, however they do not make you fight. There's training spots however they are not meant to be used. It's impossible to get lost in the beauty of the landscape.
It's a great aspect. Jagex has tried a couple of things, but this doesn't work for veterans players. The most important ones are: Quests. I went on a quest to Karamja, as I did in the desert as well as Morytania. This is the reason why people go to those locations. The issue is that you aren't able to return after you've finished.
Slayer. This can tie you to fights, and the point is that you travel to these locations to fight. However, many slayers end up tied up in dungeons. However, certain areas are accessible to everyone. Without the proper equipment, I'm not able to run through an area filled with aberrant spirits.
Hunter. This was an interesting ability for Jagex to add, because it let them make people use more tranquil areas. You had to go out into the wilderness to catch Chinchompas and Kebbits. This was a great way to get people away from the rat race. Fishing, in f2p. Karamja was the sole place to find the best fish. True for members of the caverns of living rock.
